Storage
Tips!
sLeave small walkways between the boxes and furniture in your storage unit so you can easily get to the items you want without having to move anything around.
Use uniformly sized boxes to make them easier to stack.
When wrapping breakables, tape them after you wrap them to avoid mistaking them for the excess paper used to fill the box.
If you’re putting any metal objects into storage – like lawnmowers or file cabinets – it’s best to treat them with rust protector first.
Avoid packing your boxes so that they are too heavy to carry - especially when you are packing books.
Make up an inventory of your stored items - or even better, photograph them with a digital camera. Keep this list in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
Clothing, curtains, and drapes should be stored on hangers. Add a few mothballs or cedar chips to prevent unwanted "guests."
While we offer premium security at Self Storage, it's always wise to take a few precautions of your own. Pack your storage unit so that your most valuable items are at the back, and purchase a high quality padlock to put on the door.
For easier identification, label your boxes on all 6 sides.
Pack books flat, not standing on end, to avoid damaging the spines.
Ask about climate-controlled units! If you’re storing antique furniture or important documents, they could be warped by being stored in space that’s too hot, too cold, or too humid.
If you’re storing a refrigerator, leave the door ajar to prevent mildew.
Store the items you will need most often at the front of your unit.
